About Us

Hucclecote Playgroup is a registered childcare facility that offers sessional care for children between the ages of 2 1/2 - 5 years. We are a registered charity run by a committee of parents on a voluntary basis and staffed by a qualified and experienced playgroup leader with assistants.

Currently the funding for our playgroup (as with other community playgroups) is obtained through a combination of government's Free for 3 & 4 Funding Scheme and from fees received directly from the parents.

We are registered with Ofsted to meet the statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and we must meet these specified standards to maintain government support and thus assistance with our funding. This registration also provides peace of mind for the parents as it indicates that we are suitable as carers for your children, we operate in safe premises and facilities, we have the correct insurances and we maintain the required records.

Hucclecote Playgroup is committed to the health, safety and development of the children and its staff, to delivering exceptional levels of child care and learning and to ensure the future of the playgroup.

Activities

The most important aim is that Playgroup should be fun and enjoyed by the children. Playgroup should be regarded as an extension of the home.

We aim not to teach but to provide a safe, stimulating environment where, in the company of caring adults, children can learn through play and so enhance their social, physical, intellectual and emotional development so that they start school with confidence, eager and ready to learn.

Activities Provided for the Children

All activities are provided to encourage children to initiate their own learning through play.

To encourage the children to try new things and to feel safe to make mistakes within a safe and encouraging environment. These are a small selection of activities that we provide:

  • Mark Making
  • Cosy Area
  • Construction
  • Small World
  • Messy Play
  • Role Play
  • Physical Play

Pre-School Activity Sessions

During Pre-school sessions we visit Dinglewell Infants School Library once a week. We also have access to the school's nature garden. We aim to help children with the transition into school by encouraging them in tasks they will need once they begin reception class, such as:

  • Eating lunch themselves
  • Using the toilet and washing hands
  • Playing alongside peers and developing social skills
  • Fine and gross motor skills
  • Language and communication skills
  • Learning is fun
The Pre-school sessions are structured as followed:
  • Come in and locate named coat peg, put lunch box and drink in relevant place
  • Sit down on carpet for the register
  • Free play
  • Tidy up time
  • Circle time
  • Wash hands
  • Focused activity
  • Treasure box
  • Home Time
